Buy Organic Shatavari: the Ayurvedic tonic for women

Organic Shatavari by Ayur-vana, 60 capsules, is Ayurveda’s traditional “rasayana” for women. Shatavari — meaning “she who possesses a hundred husbands” in Sanskrit — has been used for some 3,000 years. This capsule form offers a precise dose (800 mg/day) and convenient use without the taste of the powder. Available at our Paris shop, with Click & Collect and delivery across France and Europe.

A traditional women’s tonic

Shatavari is a perennial climbing plant whose fleshy tuberous roots are the part used in Ayurvedic herbal medicine. In classical texts (Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita), it is classed in three major traditional categories: “stanya janana” (galactagogue plants), traditionally used to support lactation; “vrishya” (fertility plants), traditionally associated with women’s reproductive wellbeing; and “rasayana” (rejuvenating plants), a deep-tissue tonic. Its compounds — shatavarins (steroidal saponins I–IV), isoflavonoids and mucilage — are traditionally described as supporting the female hormonal axis; the shatavarins are mild phytoestrogens that interact with hormonal receptors in a modulating way, without the strength of synthetic hormones. Shatavari is traditionally considered the feminine counterpart to ashwagandha — the two are often paired in Ayur-vana’s Trivana blend.

Traditional use through life stages

In Ayurvedic tradition, Shatavari is associated with women’s wellbeing at every life stage: adolescence and puberty (hormonal transition, cycle establishment), the active menstrual cycle (traditionally associated with cycle regularity and menstrual comfort), fertility (in Ayurveda, Shatavari is said to nourish “shukra dhatu,” the reproductive tissue, and is traditionally used around conception), pregnancy and breastfeeding (traditionally classed as a galactagogue — however, always consult a doctor or midwife before any use during pregnancy), and perimenopause and menopause (its mild phytoestrogens are traditionally associated with gently supporting the hormonal transition, often paired with chasteberry for this stage).

Capsules or powder: which format to choose

Ayur-vana offers Shatavari in three formats: 60 capsules (this product) — a discovery or short-course format, 800 mg/day, convenient and tasteless, covering 1 month; 120 capsules — a more economical format for longer courses, covering 2 months; and 150 g powder — the traditional “churna” form, with the full totum and flexible dosing (2.5–5 g/day), traditionally mixed into warm milk with honey and ghee. The capsules contain the same organic root powder as the powder format, in a precise quantity; the powder offers greater dosing flexibility and the most complete totum (including mucilage).

Is Shatavari also used by men?

Although mainly associated with women’s wellbeing, Shatavari is also used by men in Ayurveda. It is traditionally considered a powerful “pittashamak” (Pitta-pacifying), of particular interest to men with a Pitta constitution (warm temperament, irritability, gastric acidity); its mucilage is traditionally associated with soothing gastric and intestinal mucous membranes, useful in cases of acidity or reflux; and as a rasayana, it is traditionally said to nourish the seven “dhatus” (tissues) in both sexes.

How to use & precautions

Dose: 2 capsules a day (800 mg) with meals. 60 capsules = 1 month’s course. A course of 2 to 3 months is recommended. Pairs well with Ashwagandha KSM-66 (classic rasayana duo) or magnesium bisglycinate.

Not recommended in cases of hormone-dependent tumours. Not recommended for pregnant women without medical advice. If on hormonal treatment, consult a healthcare professional. This food supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Is Shatavari only for women?

No. Although traditionally associated with women’s wellbeing, Shatavari also suits men — especially Pitta constitutions (acidity, heat, irritability). Our team can advise you in-store.

How long before I notice an effect?

Shatavari’s traditional adaptogenic effects build up gradually. Initial changes in menstrual comfort and energy are typically noticed after 3–4 weeks. A 2–3 month course is recommended for a lasting effect.

Can Shatavari be combined with ashwagandha?

Yes — this is a classic Ayurvedic pairing (Shatavari for women’s wellbeing, ashwagandha as a stress-resilience adaptogen), often combined in the Trivana blend.
