Greenwhey

Greenwhey launched in 2015 with an approach that seemed niche at the time: offering a three-ingredient organic whey, when the sports nutrition market relied almost entirely on powders full of artificial flavourings, artificial sweeteners and emulsifiers.

Its positioning has not changed since. The brand describes its proteins and supplements as “rigorously sourced”, in the most absorbable forms and organic wherever possible. What stands out when you look at the formulas in detail is the consistency: the same logic runs through the whey, the multivitamins and the pre-workout.

That is what convinced us to stock it in our shop in Paris 12th. We were looking for a second strong brand to complement our sports nutrition and everyday balance range, and the quality of the formulations made the difference.

Greenwhey proteins start from organic milk collected from family farms in the Alps. The milk is pasteurised at a low temperature and then microfiltered, two steps that preserve the protein fractions better than intense heat treatment.

The native whey isolate takes the idea further: it is extracted directly from fresh milk, rather than from the whey left over from cheese-making, which is the source of almost every whey on the market. The milk is selected by Prolactal®, and the microfiltration is done cold, without ion-exchange resins or solvents.

The organic chocolate whey concentrate follows the same specifications, with less extensive purification that gives it a rounder texture and a milkier taste. Both are equally good: it is how you use them that decides, and we are happy to discuss it with you in the shop.

For its supplements, Greenwhey has made a choice that costs more to produce: chelated and patented forms. The multivitamins and minerals are the clearest example, with ALBION® bisglycinate magnesium and zinc, directly active Quatrefolic® vitamin B9, MenaQ7® K2 and Quali®-C vitamin C produced in Scotland.

The same logic applies to the pre-workout: only four ingredients, but 8 g of Kyowa Quality® L-citrulline and 3 g of CarnoSyn® beta-alanine, in other words genuinely active doses and traceable forms, whereas some formulas spread fifteen actives across a “proprietary blend”.

It is a criterion we check systematically before taking on a brand: a dose on the label tells you nothing until you know in what chemical form the nutrient is present.
