Buy Triphala: Ayurveda’s classic three-fruit formula

Triphala by Ayur-vana, 60 capsules, is the most famous formula in Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia — “three fruits” in Sanskrit — combining equal parts Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki, a pillar of Ayurveda for 5,000 years, traditionally used for digestion, transit and detoxification. Available at our Paris shop, with Click & Collect and delivery across France and Europe.

Three fruits, one tridoshic synergy

Triphala brings together three fruits, each traditionally associated with one of Ayurveda’s three doshas, creating a formula said to suit every constitution. Amalaki/Amla (Emblica officinalis, 532 mg): the Indian gooseberry, exceptionally rich in natural vitamin C (700 mg/100g fresh fruit), traditionally said to pacify Pitta; its tannins (gallic acid, ellagic acid) and polyphenols make it a powerful antioxidant, and it is traditionally considered the rasayana fruit par excellence. Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica, 532 mg): traditionally said to pacify Kapha; it contains gallic acid and astringent tannins traditionally described as toning the intestinal mucosa, and is traditionally associated with clearing excess Kapha — mucus, water retention, digestive heaviness. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula, 532 mg): nicknamed “the king of plants” in Ayurveda, traditionally said to pacify Vata; it contains chebulagic compounds and tannins traditionally described as supporting intestinal transit without an irritant effect, and is considered in Ayurveda the foremost regulator of downward movement (“apana vata”). Together, these three fruits are said to cover all three doshas — which is why Triphala is called “tridoshic,” a rarity in Ayurveda, traditionally suited to everyone, year-round.

A daily detox practice

Classical texts (Charaka Samhita) recommend Triphala as a daily background practice (“nityam sevyam”) for digestive health and longevity, with a traditional threefold action: transit regulation — Triphala is traditionally described as a gentle regulator rather than a stimulant laxative (unlike senna or buckthorn), traditionally said to tone the intestinal walls while easing transit, whether slow or fast; intestinal detox support — Triphala’s tannins are traditionally associated with cleansing the intestinal walls and supporting the renewal of the mucosa, which is why it is traditionally taken in the evening, as detoxification is said to occur during sleep; and gut-flora support — Triphala’s polyphenols have a prebiotic-type effect, traditionally described as nourishing beneficial bacteria (Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus) while inhibiting pathogenic ones, an effect explored in recent microbiome research. Triphala is also a strong antioxidant thanks to its richness in polyphenols and natural vitamin C.

60 or 120 capsules: which format

Ayur-vana offers Triphala in two formats: 60 capsules (this product) — a discovery or short-course format, covering 15–30 days depending on dosage (2–4 capsules/day), ideal for trying Triphala or a short seasonal course; and 120 capsules — a more economical format for longer courses, covering 1–2 months, recommended for regular users. Triphala is also available as a 150 g powder for those who prefer the traditional “churna” form.

How to use & precautions

Dose: 2 to 4 capsules a day with a large glass of water, ideally in the evening before bed — Triphala is traditionally said to act overnight for gentle detoxification. Start with 2 capsules and increase gradually. 60 capsules = 15–30 days. Classic Ayurvedic pairings include Trikatu in the morning (traditionally said to stimulate digestive fire) with Triphala in the evening (traditionally said to cleanse the digestive tract), or a course of probiotics after a Triphala course to help restore beneficial bacteria.

Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. If on medical treatment, consult a healthcare professional. This food supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Is Triphala a laxative?

It is traditionally described as a transit regulator rather than a stimulant laxative — traditionally said to tone the intestinal walls and support transit gently and progressively, without creating dependency or irritation.

Can Triphala be taken every day?

Yes, Ayurvedic texts traditionally recommend it as a daily background practice. A course of 1 to 3 months is common, with a 1–2 week break between courses.

Is this Triphala organic?

Yes — all three fruits in Ayur-vana’s Triphala are certified organic, in vegetable capsules, made in France.
