Its bark, dried for at least a year, is traditionally used for its laxative properties; its active compounds, the glucofrangulins, act gradually and are generally considered gentler than some other stimulant plant laxatives, complementing senna’s action. Agar-agar, a polysaccharide extracted from red algae, swells on contact with water to form a gel that increases stool volume and eases its passage through the colon — a mechanical, non-irritating action. The three probiotic strains in the formula are living micro-organisms that, taken in sufficient quantity, help maintain the balance of the gut flora, stabilised within the capsules to remain viable through the product’s shelf life.

Take 1 to 2 capsules a day with a large glass of water, ideally in the evening before bed. The effect is generally felt within 8 to 12 hours.
