Zinc is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions, but not all forms absorb equally well. Bisglycinate binds each zinc atom to two glycine molecules, protecting it in the stomach and routing it through amino-acid intestinal transporters — a different pathway from standard minerals. Unlike zinc oxide (often under 10% absorbed), sulfate (can irritate the stomach) or gluconate (average absorption), bisglycinate offers markedly higher bioavailability, causes no digestive upset, and doesn’t compete with iron or calcium absorption.

This formula uses TRAACS zinc bisglycinate (The Real Amino Acid Chelate System), a patented process by Albion Minerals, the world leader in mineral chelation. TRAACS guarantees a genuine, stable chelate — each zinc molecule is verifiably bound to two glycines in a precise ratio, remaining intact through the digestive tract until absorption in the small intestine. Clinical studies show Albion’s chelated minerals can achieve up to twice the absorption of non-chelated forms.

Zinc contributes to normal immune function (EFSA), supporting T-lymphocyte maturation and NK cell activity. It contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails, playing a role in collagen synthesis, cell division and wound healing. It also contributes to normal fertility and reproduction and to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood — zinc is present in high concentration in seminal fluid and supports sperm maturation, motility and integrity. Take 1 capsule a day with a meal. A 120-capsule bottle lasts 4 months. Avoid taking at the same time as iron or calcium (space by at least 2 hours) — tea and coffee also reduce absorption, so take away from these too.

Do not exceed 15mg elemental zinc long-term without medical advice. If supplementing beyond 3 months, monitor the zinc/copper balance, as excess zinc can reduce copper absorption. Do not exceed the recommended dose. This food supplement is not a substitute for a varied diet. Keep out of children’s reach. Store in a dry place away from light.

How does bisglycinate compare to standard zinc?
