What is PQQ?
Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) was discovered in 1979 by biochemist Minoru Ameyama while studying methylotrophic bacteria. It is naturally present in trace amounts in foods such as kiwi, parsley, green tea, natto (fermented soy), cocoa and breast milk.
A high-purity fermented form
Osavi’s PQQ is produced via natural bacterial fermentation (Hyphomicrobium denitrificans), a process ensuring high purity and excellent bioavailability — the most studied PQQ form in the international scientific literature. The capsule shell is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), suitable for vegetarians and vegans, with silicon dioxide as an inert anti-caking agent.
Mitochondrial biogenesis
Mitochondria are the cell’s energy-producing structures; over time and under oxidative stress they can lose efficiency. Mitochondrial biogenesis is the process by which new mitochondria form to replace damaged or ageing ones — a renewal essential to cellular vitality. PQQ has been studied as a factor that may support this renewal process, and is often paired with coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) for a broader cellular-wellbeing approach.
