Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) is a climbing plant native to the forests of India, Sri Lanka and tropical Asia. Its stems, rich in active compounds, are dried and ground into powder for a traditional use spanning millennia. In Sanskrit, Guduchi is called Amrit, meaning “nectar” or “ambrosia” — the immortality drink of the gods in Indian mythology. This nickname reflects the exceptional place this plant holds in the Ayurvedic pharmacopeia, where it is considered a “Rasayana”, a plant of regeneration and longevity. French laboratory Ayur-vana offers Guduchi stem as pure powder, with no excipients or additives.

Guduchi is above all recognised for its action on the body’s natural defences — one of the reference Ayurvedic plants for supporting immunity, particularly valued at seasonal changes and during winter. It is also an adaptogenic plant, helping the body adapt to stress, seasonal fatigue and external stressors, without overstimulating it. Its richness in polyphenols and bitter compounds gives it antioxidant activity, helping neutralise the free radicals responsible for cellular ageing.

In Ayurvedic classification, Guduchi belongs to the Rasayana group, plants of revitalisation and longevity, reputed to nourish deep tissues (dhatus), support vital energy (ojas) and favour harmonious ageing. Guduchi is considered balancing for all three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha), which is rare, as most plants target only one or two — making it a general tonic suited to a wide range of people. It is traditionally combined with other Ayurvedic plants according to needs: with ashwagandha for stress, or with turmeric for joint comfort.

Recommended dose: 1/2 teaspoon per day, diluted in a drink, compote, yoghurt or a little warm water. For best results, take Guduchi in the morning on an empty stomach. A recommended course of 4 to 6 weeks, renewable. The 150 g format covers a generous course. Guduchi powder has a characteristic bitter taste typical of Rasayana plants; diluting it into a strongly flavoured preparation (compote, smoothie) makes it easier to take.
