Hydrapure Nutripure in Paris: effervescent electrolytes

When you sweat, you lose more than water: sodium, potassium and magnesium go too. Drinking only plain water after a long effort dilutes what is left without replacing anything. That is the whole point of electrolyte drinks.

Hydrapure provides 980 mg of minerals per 2 tablets, shared between sodium, potassium, magnesium, zinc and calcium, plus vitamins B1, B2 and C. Many tablets stop at a few hundred milligrams, enough for a short outing but light for a long session or a heatwave.

Sodium is the main electrolyte lost in sweat, and potassium works alongside it in the water balance of cells. Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal muscle function. Calcium also contributes to normal muscle function, and zinc contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism.

Thiamine (B1) and riboflavin (B2) contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism, and vitamin C contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. The formula contains only a little sugar (1.32 g of sugars per 2 tablets): it mainly provides minerals and vitamins, not calories. For more on this mineral, see our magnesium section.

Exercise is not the only use. Many people simply drink too little because plain water does not appeal to them, and a glass that tastes of something makes a real difference.

Hot spells are the other obvious case, as are office days when you forget to drink. Some of our customers in Paris 12th keep a tube at work for exactly that reason.

Drop one tablet into 500 ml of water and let it dissolve completely, about thirty seconds, before drinking. Take it before exercise to start well hydrated, during long outings, or afterwards to replace what was lost. For activity lasting over an hour and a half, or in strong heat, a second tablet makes sense; for everyday use outside sport, one a day is plenty.

The fizz works better in cool water than in iced water, where the tablet dissolves more slowly and may leave a deposit. Keep the tube tightly closed: moisture sets off the fizz inside and sticks the tablets together. The box holds 30 tablets in two tubes of 15, so one can stay at work or in your gym bag.
