Organic turmeric powder in Paris: the golden spice of Ayurveda

Ayur-vana’s organic turmeric powder is made from 100% Curcuma longa root from organic farming, with no additives. Available in Paris at Herba Barona, in a 150 g pouch.

Turmeric, the golden spice of India

Nicknamed “the gold of the Orient,” turmeric has accompanied Indian cuisine for thousands of years. It is the rhizome of a plant in the ginger family, grown in the warm, humid regions of the Indian subcontinent. Harvested, then dried and finely ground, it yields this deep orange-yellow powder, instantly recognisable.

Its aroma is warm, earthy and slightly peppery, with a hint of bitterness that pairs equally well with savoury dishes and sweet preparations. In India, it flavours everyday lentil dals, curries, basmati rice, chutneys and soups. It also appears in the famous golden latte, that creamy golden milk that has become a classic comforting drink.

Turmeric in Ayurvedic tradition

In Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine, every plant has a taste profile — the rasa — which determines its place in the body’s balance. Turmeric brings together three tastes: bitter, pungent and slightly astringent. It is traditionally associated with balancing the Kapha and Vata doshas, and holds a central place in everyday Ayurvedic cooking.

Classical texts also give it a strong symbolic dimension: turmeric appears in many Indian rituals, from wedding ceremonies to household offerings. This dual role, both culinary and cultural, explains its presence in almost every kitchen in India.

A pure, organic powder made in France

Ayur-vana selects its raw materials directly in India, from certified organic farming networks. The root is then dried, ground and packaged in France, allowing full quality control on every batch: microbiological testing, and screening for pesticide residues and heavy metals.

The result is a single-ingredient powder: turmeric root, nothing else. No excipient, no anti-caking agent, no colouring — the intense colour comes solely from the root itself. The product is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.

The resealable 150 g kraft pouch keeps the aroma fresh between uses. It’s a generous size for everyday cooking, available on the shelf in our shop in Paris 12th arrondissement.

How to use turmeric powder

In cooking: add a teaspoon of turmeric powder to stews, curries, soups, rice, roasted vegetables or marinades. Turmeric releases its flavours better when briefly heated in fat — oil, ghee or coconut milk — at the start of cooking.

As a drink: for a golden latte, gently heat 250 ml of plant-based milk with half a teaspoon of turmeric, a little cinnamon, a pinch of black pepper and a touch of honey or maple syrup. Pepper is a traditional addition that has always accompanied turmeric in Indian cooking.

Caution: turmeric stains fabrics and porous surfaces permanently. Keep the pouch tightly closed, in a dry place, away from heat and light. This product is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle.

Who is this turmeric powder for?

This powder is aimed first at fans of Indian and Ayurvedic cooking who want a pure, organic and traceable spice, unlike industrial blends where the actual turmeric content is sometimes low. The 150 g size suits those who use it regularly, several times a week.

It also appeals to those who prefer powder to capsules: the quantity can be freely adjusted, it fits naturally into recipes, and the price per gram is notably more attractive. For a more concentrated, standardised use, our shelves also offer curcumin-titrated extracts, such as our antioxidant selection in Paris.

If you’re unsure which format best suits your habits, our team is happy to advise you in store, at 10 rue Théophile Roussel in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about organic turmeric powder

How much turmeric should I use per day?

For culinary use, a level teaspoon (about 3 g) per day is a common guideline, spread across meals or drinks. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Why combine turmeric with black pepper?

This is a traditional pairing in Indian cooking: pepper is almost always found alongside turmeric in spice blends such as garam masala. Just a pinch is enough.

Is this turmeric organic?

Yes. It is certified organic and made of 100% Curcuma longa root, with no additives. Grown in India, packaged and checked in France.

How long does a 150 g pouch last?

At a rate of one teaspoon per day, a 150 g pouch covers about a month and a half of daily use, and much longer for occasional culinary use.
