What is Tulsi (Holy Basil)?
Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum), also called Holy Basil, is a perennial aromatic plant from the mint family. Considered one of the most sacred plants in Hindu culture, Tulsi has been grown in Indian households for millennia, where it is revered as an embodiment of the goddess Lakshmi. Almost every traditional Indian home keeps a Tulsi plant in its courtyard, tended daily with devotion.

Traditional use and flavour profile
In Ayurvedic tradition, Tulsi is valued as an adaptogenic plant, traditionally used to help the body adapt to everyday stress and to support a sense of calm. The infusion has a warm, slightly peppery and aromatic taste, distinct from green or black tea. It contains neither caffeine nor theine, making it suitable to drink at any time of day, including in the evening.
We also stock the Ayur-vana range in powder form for those who prefer it: Organic Tulsi Powder (Holy Basil).
How to use & precautions
Steep one sachet in hot water for 5 to 8 minutes. We recommend 2 to 3 cups per day. The box of 25 sachets covers around 8 to 12 days of regular use.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between plain Tulsi and Tulsi Ginger tea?
Plain Tulsi tea contains only Holy Basil leaves, giving the authentic, subtle taste of Tulsi on its own. Tulsi Ginger tea combines Tulsi with ginger for a warmer, spicier infusion, particularly popular in winter. Both offer the traditional character of Tulsi with a different aromatic note. Come try both at Herba Barona in Paris.
Does Tulsi contain caffeine?
No. Tulsi contains neither caffeine nor theine, making it a drink you can enjoy at any time of day, including in the evening. It is a good alternative to tea or coffee for anyone looking to cut back on caffeine while keeping a comforting hot-drink ritual.
How many cups of Tulsi tea can I drink a day?
We recommend 2 to 3 cups of Tulsi tea per day. The 25 sachets in the box correspond to roughly 8 to 12 days of regular use. Ask our team in the Paris shop for advice on the right routine for you.
