Nutripure Lime-Mango Flavouring in Paris: to flavour your whey and collagen peptides
A natural powdered flavouring, sweetened with stevia, to add to an unflavoured protein or collagen peptides: 50 g tub, 100 servings.
It is not to be consumed on its own. Available in Paris at Herba Barona.
Why a flavouring sold separately
Most protein powders are sold already flavoured: you choose a taste and stick with it until the last dose in the pouch. Nutripure has taken the opposite approach. The brand offers its proteins and collagen peptides in an unflavoured version, and natural flavourings in small tubs, to be added when you prepare your shaker.
The first advantage is practical. Your base stays neutral, you change flavour whenever you like, and if a taste does not suit you, you are not left with a kilo of powder on your hands. An unflavoured protein also slips more easily into a pancake batter, a porridge or a savoury recipe, where a vanilla whey would be out of place.
It is also a matter of clarity. Sold on its own, the flavouring shows the full list of its ingredients on its label: you know exactly what you are adding to your drink. This is the argument Nutripure puts forward, and it is the one our customers most often remember at our shop in Paris 12th.
The lime-mango taste
This is the most exotic flavour in the range. Mango brings a round, sweet and fruity note; lime livens it up with a tangy touch, enhanced by a little citric acid. The result is closer to a tropical fruit juice than to a sweet.
This fresh profile goes particularly well with cold drinks and light bases: water, oat or rice milk, coconut water. With whole cow’s milk or a very creamy drink, the acidity of the lime can be surprising; in that case, it is better to start with a small dose.
The sweetener is stevia, in the form of steviol glycosides. It gives a clean sweetness without adding any significant amount of sugar: one scoop contains only 0.4 g of carbohydrates, which come from the maltodextrin used as a carrier for the flavourings.
Which proteins to use it with
Nutripure designed this flavouring for its own unflavoured powders. Its label names three: the Whey Isolate Native, the organic plant protein and the brand’s collagen peptides, whether the bovine Peptan® or the Naticol® marine collagen. The brand’s website also mentions Muscle Protein.
The manufacturer’s warning is clear and we repeat it as it stands: the flavouring is not to be consumed on its own, and it is not intended for any use other than flavouring these proteins. It is neither a syrup nor a powdered drink. Think of it as a seasoning for your shaker.
As the flavouring is vegan, it suits a plant base just as well as a dairy base or collagen peptides. In our shop in Paris, we readily suggest it to those who find the unflavoured version a little austere for everyday use.
The right dose in a shaker
The tub contains a 1 ml scoop, which corresponds to 0.5 g of flavouring. For 10 g of collagen peptides, Nutripure recommends one scoop. For a 30 g dose of whey isolate, allow three scoops, i.e. 1.5 g; use the same guide for a dose of plant protein. Mix everything in about 250 ml of water or plant milk.
These are guidelines, not rules. If you like a strong taste, add one or two scoops; if you prefer a subtle note, use less. The best approach is to try it over two or three shakers before settling on your dose: this is what we suggest to our customers in Paris who are discovering separate flavourings. The 50 g tub holds 100 scoops, i.e. about a hundred peptide shakers or around thirty whey shakers.
To avoid lumps, pour in the liquid first, then the protein, then the flavouring, and shake for a few seconds. The flavouring dissolves easily in cold water.
Ideas for cool drinks
With collagen peptides, which dissolve perfectly in cold water, the simplest version is also the most refreshing: 10 g of peptides, one scoop of flavouring, a large glass of sparkling water and a few ice cubes. The result is a light drink, a little like an exotic lemonade, welcome on hot days in Paris.
With a whey isolate or a plant protein, an iced shaker works very well: well-chilled oat milk, three scoops of flavouring and two or three ice cubes straight into the shaker. For a smoothie, blend your dose of protein with the flavouring, half a banana or a few pieces of frozen mango and a plant milk: the fruit reinforces the flavour without masking it.
Avoid sparkling water with whey, however: the foam quickly overflows. Keep it for collagen peptides, which hardly foam at all.
Storage and other flavours in the range
Keep the tub in a cool, dry place away from light, tightly closed after each use: a sweetened powder quickly absorbs moisture. The best-before date and batch number are shown under the tub. Made in France, the flavouring is vegan, GMO-free and allergen-free according to the brand’s traceability sheet, and it is produced in line with the EN 17444 anti-doping standard.
Nutripure offers the same concept in several flavours: lemon, chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, hazelnut, strawberry, coconut and banana. They can be combined, and some customers alternate an indulgent flavour in the morning with a fruity one after training. If you are unsure, come and talk to us at our shop in Paris 12th: we will help you choose the unflavoured base that suits the way you use it.
Frequently asked questions
Can the flavouring be consumed on its own, in water?
No. Nutripure states that the flavouring is not to be consumed on its own: it is designed to be added to its whey isolate, its organic plant protein or its collagen peptides.
How many shakers can I make with one tub?
The 50 g tub contains 100 scoops of 0.5 g: about 100 peptide shakers at one scoop each, or around thirty whey shakers at three scoops.
Does the flavouring contain sugar?
It is sweetened with stevia. The maltodextrin used as a carrier provides about 0.4 g of carbohydrates per scoop, a very small amount.
Where can I find it in Paris?
At Herba Barona, 10 rue Théophile Roussel, Paris 12th, from Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, between Ledru-Rollin (line 8) and Bastille (lines 1, 5, 8) metro stations.
Herba Barona’s tip — start with a single scoop, taste, then add another if needed. With plenty of ice, the taste seems less intense: an extra half scoop is enough to bring it back.
