Nigari Magnesium Chloride in Paris: crystals to dissolve yourself
Nature et Partage magnesium chloride, also called nigari, comes as white crystals to dissolve in water. A 500 g kraft bag: one tablespoon in a litre of water, then one glass a day. Available in Paris at Herba Barona.
Nigari, a traditional Japanese product
In Japan, magnesium chloride has long been used to curdle soy milk when making tofu. It is called nigari, a word that refers to bitterness: the name already announces its taste.
The Nature et Partage bag contains 95% magnesium chloride hexahydrate, as white crystals that you dissolve in water yourself. Its origin is given on the label: Geermu, a town on the Tibetan plateau, in China. It is then packed in France, in Gornac in the Gironde, in an eco-responsible 500 g kraft bag.
It belongs to the brand’s range of powders and crystals in kraft bags, alongside the food-grade baking soda.
Magnesium, at the recommended amount
Prepared and drunk as the brand indicates, one glass of solution a day, this chloride provides magnesium. Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. It also contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system.
Nature et Partage reminds us itself: magnesium chloride is not a medicine, and it is not essential to take it every day for life. It comes in addition to a varied and balanced diet, never in its place.
Preparing your bottle: 20 to 25 g in a litre of water
The preparation comes down to two steps. Dissolve 20 to 25 g of crystals, that is one tablespoon, in a litre of water. Then drink 12.5 cl of this solution a day, the equivalent of one glass. The brand asks that you do not exceed this amount of 12.5 cl a day.
A one-litre bottle therefore lasts eight days. Keep it tightly closed and write the date of preparation on it: it is the simplest way to keep track. The 500 g bag makes 20 to 25 litres of solution, enough to last several months.
Use a dry tablespoon to scoop from the bag, then close it straight away: the crystals attract moisture from the air and clump quickly.
The taste, and the first days
No point hiding it: the solution tastes salty and bitter. The simplest way is to drink it well chilled, in one go, possibly topped up with a little fruit juice. You get used to it within a few days.
At the start, a slight laxative effect may appear. Nature et Partage then advises reducing the amount, without stopping altogether: the effect quickly goes away.
Chloride, citrate or bisglycinate: choosing your magnesium in Paris
Magnesium chloride is the most traditional and simplest form: crystals, water, a bottle. If the taste puts you off, other forms exist. Now Foods magnesium citrate powder also dissolves in a glass of water, and Novoma magnesium bisglycinate comes in capsules, with nothing to prepare.
All these forms are on the shelves of our magnesium section, in our shop in Paris 12th. Come by: we choose together according to your habits and the way you like to take it.
Precautions for use
Magnesium chloride is not recommended in cases of kidney problems, high blood pressure, notably if you follow a salt-free diet, haemophilia and corticosteroid treatment. If you are taking medication, ask your doctor for advice before starting.
Do not exceed 12.5 cl a day of the solution prepared at 20 to 25 g per litre. The product does not replace a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle. Keep the bag out of the reach of children and store it away from humidity.
