A gainer built around oats and native whey

A gainer is a drink that brings together carbohydrates, protein and a little fat in a single shaker. People choose one when meals alone are no longer enough to cover high needs: heavy training, a physical job, a small appetite or a schedule that leaves little room for a proper snack.

Nutripure’s Pure Gainer starts from a simple base. More than half of the powder is micronised oat flour, meaning oats ground very finely so they mix into water. Then come native whey, bovine collagen peptides and coconut MCTs. The chocolate version adds cocoa powder, a natural flavouring and stevia.

The 1.2 kg kraft pouch holds 15 servings of 80 g. It is the small size of the range, handy for trying the product before moving on to the bucket. We have added it to the Nutripure shelf of our shop in Paris 12th, next to the brand’s protein powders.

What an 80 g serving provides

According to the table published by Nutripure for the chocolate flavour, an 80 g serving, i.e. two scoops, provides 28 g of protein, 33 g of carbohydrates including 2.8 g of sugars, and 6.2 g of fat. The label on the pouch sums up the formula as 35% protein.

Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass and to the maintenance of muscle mass. It also contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. These are the only claims we use for this product: the rest of the formula is described by what it contains, not by promises.

The carbohydrates come mainly from the oats, and sugars stay low because the recipe contains no added sugar. A gainer does not act on the scales by itself: what counts is your diet and training as a whole. Nutripure says so clearly, too: it fits into a slight, controlled calorie surplus. The full table is in the Composition tab.

A short ingredient list

Micronised oat flour makes up 59% of the chocolate version. It provides most of the carbohydrates, in the form of a cereal many people already eat at breakfast. Its very fine grind avoids the porridge-like texture you can get with oat flakes blended at home.

Milk protein makes up 17%: it is a native whey protein concentrate of EU origin. The word “native” means that the protein is extracted directly from milk by filtration, without going through cheese-making. Patented low-molecular-weight bovine collagen peptides account for 14%. MCTs, extracted from coconut oil, complete the fat content.

Lactase is an enzyme involved in breaking down lactose; it is added because concentrated whey contains some. The rest is about taste: cocoa powder, natural flavouring and steviol glycosides. There is no sucralose and no added sugar.

The chocolate taste and the texture

With cocoa powder on top of the flavouring, the chocolate version has a mild cocoa taste, closer to a cold milk chocolate drink than to dark chocolate. Stevia adds sweetness without making it heavy. Because the oats give the drink body, the shake is thicker than a classic whey, a bit like a light milkshake.

In 300 ml of water, the texture remains easy to drink. With a plant-based milk, it becomes rounder and more indulgent. If you are used to very thin whey shakes, you may be surprised the first time: it is the oats that give this consistency.

Let the shaker rest for a minute after shaking it: the foam settles and the drink is more pleasant. More than a dessert, this gainer is closer to a liquid breakfast, and that is how we present it in our shop in Paris.

How to prepare it and when to take it

Pour 300 ml of water or plant-based milk into a shaker, add two scoops, i.e. 80 g, then shake for about fifteen seconds. Nutripure states that this serving can be doubled during the day depending on your level of training, always within a controlled calorie surplus. For a first try, one serving a day is plenty to get an idea.

The brand suggests two moments: as a snack, between two meals spaced far apart, and after training. On rest days, the afternoon snack remains a good slot. Regularity matters more than the exact time. Made with milk rather than water, the shake becomes even more filling.

Nutripure suggests pairing it with its Creapure® creatine and its Pure Workout, taken before the session. To take your serving with you, a 600 ml Nutripure shaker leaves enough room for 300 ml of liquid and the powder.

Gainer, whey or Muscle Protein: which one to choose in Paris?

A whey mainly provides protein. Nutripure’s Whey Isolate Chocolate, for example, gives a lot of protein for few calories: it is the tool for topping up your protein intake without changing the rest of your plate. Muscle Protein combines isolated whey and native milk proteins, in the same spirit.

The Pure Gainer goes further: it adds oats and MCTs, so carbohydrates and a little fat. It is aimed at people who struggle to eat enough over the day. If your diet already covers your needs and you are only looking for more protein, a whey will be better suited, such as the Whey Isolate Strawberry from the same brand. For more everyday use, outside sport, the Daily Protein chocolate is another option.

Our protein section in Paris and our sport and endurance selection bring these products together. If you are unsure, come and see us: we will look at your meals, your training sessions and what is really missing.

Manufacturing, allergens and precautions

Nutripure is a French brand founded in 2017 by Christophe Carrio, five-time world champion in artistic karate and holder of a diploma in dietetics, with his brother Florent, an engineer. The company is based in Haute-Garonne, near Toulouse, and the Pure Gainer is made in France, in line with the EN 17444 anti-doping standard. A traceability sheet for the chocolate version can be downloaded from the brand’s website.

Milk is the only allergen in the recipe. It therefore contains lactose, despite the added lactase. Traces of gluten, egg, soy, fish and celery are possible: if you have an allergy, always read the label of the pouch you have in hand. The collagen is of bovine origin, worth knowing if you avoid beef.

A gainer complements your diet; it does not replace varied meals. Close the zip tightly after each use and keep the pouch dry, away from heat. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical supervision, ask your doctor for advice. The whole range is presented in our Nutripure area in Paris 12th.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Pure Gainer and a whey?

Whey mainly provides protein. The Pure Gainer combines protein, carbohydrates from oats and fat: an 80 g serving gives 28 g of protein and 33 g of carbohydrates.

Can I take it on days without training?

Yes. Nutripure even recommends keeping up the routine on rest days, for example as an afternoon snack.

Should I mix it with water or milk?

Both work. With water, the drink is lighter. With milk, dairy or plant-based, it is richer and creamier.

Where can I find it in Paris?

The Pure Gainer Chocolate is listed at our shop at 10 rue Théophile Roussel, in Paris 12th, near Ledru-Rollin (line 8) and Bastille metro stations, Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. Like the whole Nutripure range, it is sold only in store: you can also order it here and collect it at the shop. Its current availability is shown on this page.

Herba Barona’s tip — if 80 g in one go feels heavy, split the serving in two: one scoop mid-morning, the other in the late afternoon. The shake goes down more easily, and your intake for the day stays the same.
