Why this blueberry flavour is so popular
On the protein shelf, flavours often look alike: chocolate, vanilla, caramel, cookie. Greenwhey’s blueberry steps outside that repertoire. It tastes of fruit, fresh and slightly tangy, more reminiscent of a blueberry yoghurt than a sports drink.
It is a flavour our customers ask for again. Many first try it out of curiosity, alongside a chocolate or a vanilla, then come back specifically for it. It is particularly popular with people who had grown tired of very sweet or very “dessert-like” tastes, and with those who drink their protein with water.
The colour is a good sign of its honesty: the drink stays white, almost milky. There is no purple colouring and no artificial flavouring to play on appearance. The taste comes from a natural blueberry flavouring from organic farming.
A recipe pared down to the essentials
The ingredient list has three items: 95% native whey protein isolate, 3% natural blueberry flavouring and 2% monk fruit decoction. Nothing else.
Monk fruit, or luo han guo, is a small Asian fruit whose sweetness does not come from sugar. It provides just enough to round off the acidity of the fruit, without sucralose or acesulfame. As a result, a serving contains only 1.2 g of sugars.
Only the flavouring is organic in this recipe. The protein isolate itself is not certified organic: it is a very high-quality native whey, but without an organic label. We want this point to be clear.
From fresh Alpine milk to powder
The protein in this isolate is produced by the Austrian dairy Prolactal®, from fresh milk collected from family farms in the Alps. It does not go through cheese-making: it is separated directly from the milk.
The separation is done by cold microfiltration. The milk flows along very fine membranes, which hold back the whey proteins and let through the lactose, fat and some of the minerals. No solvents, no resins, no intensive heating.
This gentle process explains two qualities you notice straight away: a very fine powder that disperses quickly, and a neutral-tasting base. That is exactly what allows a delicate flavour like blueberry to come through without being masked.
Nutritional values per serving
Per 30 g of powder: 109 kcal, 25 g of protein, 1.2 g of carbohydrates of which 1.2 g sugars, 0 g of fat and 0.03 g of salt. It is one of the leanest profiles in the Greenwhey range. The 900 g pouch provides 30 servings.
Like all whey, this isolate provides all nine essential amino acids, including a high proportion of leucine, isoleucine and valine, the three branched-chain amino acids.
Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass and to the maintenance of muscle mass, as well as to the maintenance of normal bones. With no fat and very few carbohydrates, this isolate is well suited to periods when you are watching your intake.
Our ideas for enjoying it
The basics: 4 tablespoons, i.e. 30 g, in 250 ml of liquid, liquid first. A few seconds in the shaker are enough. A thin froth may appear, since there is no emulsifier; it disappears within a minute.
With ice-cold water, it is a thirst-quenching drink, almost a fruit lemonade, very pleasant after exercise. With milk, it becomes a blueberry milkshake, smooth and creamy. With coconut or oat milk, the fruit comes through even more.
This flavour is also the most successful in a bowl: mixed into fromage frais or skyr, with a few fresh or frozen blueberries, it makes a complete breakfast in two minutes. It goes very well with overnight oats.
Blueberry, chocolate or vanilla?
The three Greenwhey native isolates are based on the same protein, with the same 25 g per serving. The difference lies in the flavour and how you use it.
Blueberry is the choice for those who want to move away from classic flavours and who like fruity, fresh tastes. Chocolate is more indulgent and more intense, perfect for recipes. Vanilla remains the most neutral, the one that goes with everything without dominating.
Many of our customers alternate between two flavours so they never get bored. You can compare the whole range in our whey isolate section, or come and talk it over with us at the shop in Paris 12th.
Labels, allergens and precautions
The product is V-Label certified vegetarian, gluten-free, kosher and halal. The blueberry flavouring comes from organic farming.
It contains milk. Almost all the lactose is removed by microfiltration, making it an isolate that is generally well tolerated by people sensitive to lactose. It is not suitable for those with a milk protein allergy.
Store closed, in a cool, dry place, away from light. Food supplement to be used as part of a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended amount and keep out of reach of children.
Frequently asked questions
Is the blueberry taste natural?
Yes. It comes from a natural blueberry flavouring from organic farming, with no colouring or artificial flavouring. That is why the drink stays white.
Is this an organic whey?
No, only the flavouring is organic. The protein isolate is a native whey from Alpine milk, but it is not certified organic.
Is the taste very sweet?
No. Monk fruit adds a light sweetness that accompanies the fruit without covering it. It is precisely this fresh character that makes it so popular.
Can I collect it in the shop?
Yes, at 10 rue Théophile Roussel, Tuesday to Saturday, from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm.
Herba Barona’s tip — try it first simply with well-chilled water: that is where the blueberry flavour shows itself best. Only then try it over fromage frais.
