What is the difference between reduced and oxidised glutathione?

Reduced glutathione (GSH) is the active form, able to directly neutralise free radicals and take part in detoxification reactions. The body can recycle GSSG back into GSH via an enzyme called glutathione reductase, but this process has its limits — which is why supplementing with the reduced form is preferred.
