Hojicha, Japan’s roasted green tea
Hojicha is a Japanese green tea whose leaves are roasted at high temperature. The roasting gives it a brown colour, a round, roasted taste reminiscent of hazelnut, and above all a markedly reduced caffeine content compared with matcha or sencha. It’s the tea the Japanese serve in the evening or to children.
Reboost contains 2.1 g per dose, i.e. 68.75 g of the 100 g in the pouch. Hojicha provides the base and the taste; the other two ingredients provide the function. To place hojicha among other teas, our article which drink for which moment gives an overview.
Cordyceps and schisandra, the two active ingredients
Cordyceps (500 mg per dose) is a mushroom used for centuries in Asia for energy and endurance. SIHO knows it well: it’s one of their long-standing products, which we also offer in capsules with the ultra-concentrated organic Cordyceps. Here it goes into the cup.
Schisandra (700 mg) is a Chinese berry known as the “five-flavour berry”, classed among adaptogenic plants. It’s traditionally used for vitality and resistance to fatigue. The combination of the two aims for stable energy, without the spike-then-crash many feel with coffee.
Who it’s for
Reboost is aimed first at people sensitive to caffeine, who enjoy the coffee ritual but not its effects: jitteriness, racing heart, the 3pm slump. It also suits athletes before exercise, and anyone who wants to cut down on coffee without jumping straight to herbal tea.
It’s a product we’re happy to let people taste in our Paris 12th shop, because the roasted flavour pleasantly surprises those expecting a classic “green tea”.
How to prepare it
One 3 g dose (one spoonful) in 200 to 250 ml of hot water or plant-based milk, like a tea. For the cold version, let it steep for 5 minutes in cold water, cold-brew style. The 100 g pouch makes 25 to 30 cups depending on the dose. Best in the morning or early afternoon; hojicha still contains a little caffeine.
For adults only. Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
The ritual matters as much as the cup
What many people look for in coffee isn’t just the caffeine: it’s the pause, the warm cup in hand, the morning gesture. Simply cutting coffee without replacing it with anything often fails for that reason. Reboost was designed to fill exactly that role: a powder to prepare like a tea, an amber colour, a roasted aroma.
The resealable 100 g pouch fits in a desk drawer. In the morning, prepare it with hot water like a tea; in summer, let it steep for five minutes in a bottle of cold water, cold-brew style, and take it with you. With warm oat milk, it makes a rounder drink, close to a latte.
SIHO also thought of an evening version: Reset, based on ube, glycine and maitake, with no theine at all. The two complement each other, one to start the day, the other to wind down. We display them side by side in the shop.
Reboost in SIHO’s Functionals range
SIHO, a French brand packed in Brittany, launched four functional drinks in September 2026 built around easy-to-understand ingredients: Reboost for energy, Reset for the evening, Regul for satiety, Repulp for the skin. The whole brand is gathered in our SIHO section, and our other energy solutions under Energy and vitality.
Frequently asked questions
Where to buy Reboost SIHO in Paris?
At Herba Barona, 10 rue Théophile Roussel, Paris 12th, and on this website.
Does it contain caffeine?
A little: hojicha is a green tea, but the roasting greatly reduces its caffeine. Noticeably less than a coffee or a matcha.
What does it taste like?
Roasted and round, close to roasted tea or roasted barley, with a light fruity note from the schisandra. No bitterness.
Can it be drunk every day?
Yes, one to two cups a day, in place of coffee.
Herba Barona’s tip — If you drink three coffees a day, start by replacing the afternoon one. It’s the one that disturbs sleep the most, and Reboost replaces it well.
Food supplement. Not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep out of reach of children.
