Noni: a sacred fruit of French Polynesia
Noni (Morinda citrifolia), also called “nono” in Tahiti, is a tropical fruit in the Rubiaceae family, grown throughout the intertropical Pacific from Southeast Asia to Polynesia. In French Polynesia, noni has held a central place in traditional medicine for more than 2,000 years — Tahitian healers, or “tahu’a,” used the fruit, leaves, roots and bark to support everyday wellbeing, and the fruit was considered sacred. Tahitian noni benefits from ideal growing conditions: mineral-rich volcanic soil, a warm, humid tropical climate and near-total absence of pollution — conditions that let the fruit develop an optimal concentration of active compounds, explaining Tahitian noni’s worldwide reputation.
Composition & active compounds
Organic Tahitian noni juice is a concentrate of unique bioactive compounds, including proxeronine (a precursor of xeronine, an alkaloid involved in many cellular processes), scopoletin (a coumarin compound of interest for joint comfort and circulatory wellbeing), and anthraquinones that support healthy digestive function. Noni is also rich in polysaccharides, which support the body’s natural defences, plus vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium, magnesium and iron, with a notably complete amino-acid profile. This product is 100% pure organic Tahitian noni juice, with no added water, sugar, preservatives or flavourings.
Traditional benefits
Noni juice is traditionally used to support many bodily functions: it contributes to maintaining immune defences, a valuable ally at seasonal changes or during fatigue; its antioxidant content helps protect cells from oxidative stress and premature cellular ageing; and it is reputed for its overall revitalising effect, with many users reporting improved daily energy after a few weeks. Polynesian populations traditionally use it for joint and muscle comfort, to support digestion and transit, and to maintain general wellbeing — it’s also popular with athletes for post-exercise recovery.
How to use & precautions
Recommended dose: 30 to 50 ml a day (about 2–3 tablespoons), ideally in the morning on an empty stomach, 15–30 minutes before breakfast, for optimal absorption. The taste is distinctive — earthy, slightly bitter and tangy, with a characteristic ripe-cheese aroma — most users adjust to it quickly; mixing with a little grape, apple or pineapple juice, or diluting in water with a spoonful of honey, can soften it. Shake well before use, as natural sediment can form. After opening, refrigerate and use within 5 weeks. At 30 ml a day, the 1-litre bottle provides about 33 days; a course of at least 3 consecutive months is recommended for best results.
Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with severe kidney or liver conditions, or people on anticoagulant treatment (due to its vitamin K content). If on medication, seek advice from your doctor before starting a course. This food supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep out of reach of children.
Frequently asked questions
Why does noni juice have such a distinctive taste?
Its characteristic taste comes from its unique composition of organic acids, volatile compounds and alkaloids. It can be off-putting on the first try, but most people adjust within a few days — mixing with grape or pineapple juice, or sweetening with honey, can help.
How long before I feel the effects?
Generally after 2–4 weeks of regular daily use; some notice improved energy within the first week. A 3-month course is recommended for optimal results — consistency matters more than dose size.
Can noni juice be taken with other supplements?
Yes, it pairs well with common supplements like magnesium, vitamin D, probiotics or omega-3, and with other superfruits like açaí, goji or mangosteen. If you take anticoagulants or blood-pressure medication, consult your doctor before starting a course.
