One tub to last three months without a second thought
Omega 3 are not something you take for a quick boost over a few days. You take them every day, season after season, a bit like eating oily fish every week. It is for this way of doing things that Nutripure offers this 270-capsule tub: it covers a full quarter at the recommended dose of three capsules a day.
The first advantage is practical. One tub to buy, one tub to keep an eye on, and no gap in your routine because the small bottle ran out on a Friday evening. Over a long period, it is often this kind of detail that makes the difference between a good intention and a habit that lasts.
The contents are exactly the same as in the one-month size: same oil, same capsules, same dosage. Only the quantity changes. In our shop in Paris 12th, it is the size we recommend once taking omega 3 has become second nature.
What three capsules a day provide
The daily dose of three capsules provides 2400 mg of omega 3, including 1260 mg of EPA and 900 mg of DHA. As the label states, the oil is standardised to 42% EPA and 30% DHA: most of each 1000 mg capsule is therefore made up of these two fatty acids, the ones found in cold-water fish.
These amounts exceed the thresholds set by European regulations. EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart; the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and to the maintenance of normal vision; the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
These omega 3 go alongside a varied diet and do not replace fish on your plate. They naturally sit next to our heart, eyes and visual comfort and memory sections, where you will find other products related to the same functions.
Epax®, small wild fish and monitored fishing
The oil is supplied by Epax®, a Norwegian specialist in concentrated fish oils whose patented process purifies the oil and removes heavy metals, PCBs and other pollutants. It comes from wild anchovies, sardines and mackerel, small species caught in areas monitored by the Friend of the Sea label, which checks that fish stocks are managed sustainably.
After concentration, the omega 3 are presented as triglycerides, the form in which they occur in fish. The oil is protected by two antioxidants of natural origin: rosemary extracts and a blend of tocopherols, the compounds that make up vitamin E.
The capsules are made in Brittany, in line with the EN 17444 anti-doping standard, which matters to athletes who are subject to testing. The shell is made of marine gelatine, so the product is not suitable for vegetarians.
Keeping a large tub fresh for three months
With a tub that lasts a quarter, storage matters more than with a one-month bottle. Nutripure is clear on this point: the capsules are kept in the fridge. The cold slows down oxidation of the oil, and a tub kept cool stays pleasant to use down to the last capsule.
The freshness of the oil is measured by the TotOx index. Nutripure guarantees an index below 7 and prints the value for each batch directly on the bottom of the tub: turn it over and you can read the figure for your batch, often close to 3 according to the brand.
A few simple habits help: close the lid tightly after each use, do not leave the tub on the table in the sun, and take out only the capsules you need for the day. The best-before date is on the label; with 270 capsules, it leaves plenty of time to finish the tub.
Fitting it into your day
Nutripure recommends three capsules a day with a glass of water, preferably with meals. You can take them together at the meal of your choice, or take one at breakfast, one at lunch and one at dinner. A meal that contains a little fat, such as a drizzle of olive oil, cheese or eggs, goes well with oil capsules.
If you work away from home, keep the tub in the fridge and take only your lunchtime capsules with you in a small box or pill case. When travelling, do the same: take just the capsules you need and leave the tub in the cool.
The 1000 mg capsules are smooth softgels that are easy to swallow. Nutripure describes them as odourless. For those who worry about a fishy aftertaste, Nutripure suggests swallowing them in the middle or at the end of a full meal.
90 or 270 capsules: which size to choose in Paris?
If you are new to Epax® omega 3, the 90-capsule tub lets you try them for a month: the size of the capsules, the time of day that suits you, how well you tolerate them. Once the habit is in place, the large 270-capsule tub takes over and saves you buying a new one every month.
The large size also makes sense in a household where two people take omega 3: at three capsules each, the tub lasts a month and a half for two. Simply compare the number of capsules with the length of your course, then choose the tub that matches. Our omega 3 section brings together the other fish oils we offer in Paris.
Nutripure suggests combining its omega 3 with its multivitamins for a complete daily foundation. You are welcome to come and see both sizes and talk them over with us at the shop at 10 rue Théophile Roussel, in Paris 12th.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 270-capsule tub different from the 90-capsule one?
No, the contents are identical: same Epax® oil, same 1000 mg capsules, same dose of three capsules a day. Only the number of capsules changes, from one to three months of use.
Do they really need to be kept in the fridge?
That is Nutripure’s advice, and it makes all the more sense for a three-month tub. Kept cool, the oil stays fresh until the tub is finished.
Can I take them if I am pregnant or on medication?
The product is for adults only. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, ask a healthcare professional for advice before starting.
Where can I find these omega 3 in Paris?
At our shop at 10 rue Théophile Roussel, Paris 12th, near Ledru-Rollin metro station, Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. You can also order them on this page and collect them in store; current availability is shown at the top of the page.
Herba Barona’s tip — keep the tub in the fridge door, at eye level, next to the breakfast butter or jam: you see it every morning, you no longer forget your capsules, and the oil stays cool for the full three months.
