Marine collagen, the tasty way
Many people who take collagen powder stir it into a coffee, a yoghurt or a soup so they don’t have to drink it on its own. With this flavoured version, Nutripure took the opposite route: the collagen becomes the drink itself. One scoop poured into a glass of water gives you a glass that tastes of exotic fruit, with nothing else to add.
The brand describes a flavour with fruity, sunny notes, and the pouch shows a pineapple, a mango and a passion fruit. In practice, you get a light, fruity, slightly tangy drink. The smell of marine collagen, which some people dread, stays very discreet: it is one of the points Nutripure highlights for its Naticol® collagen. As always with a flavouring, taste is a personal matter, and it is often the first question we are asked in our Paris shop.
This version is therefore for those who like to drink their collagen on its own, in the morning, at lunch or after a workout. If you would rather add it to your meals or hot drinks without changing their taste, an unflavoured version is a better fit: our whole selection of collagens is gathered on a single page.
What the exotic flavour pouch contains
The ingredient list is short. The first, by far, is hydrolysed collagen: marine collagen peptides of types I and III. Then come a natural exotic flavouring, citric acid for the tangy note, steviol glycosides as a sweetener and, finally, vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid.
Using stevia gives a sweet taste with no added sugar. Citric acid plays a double role: it balances the flavour and heightens the impression of fresh fruit. The formula contains no colouring, no maltodextrin and no artificial flavouring: five ingredients in all, which you can read in full on the pouch.
A 10 g serving provides 9.5 g of collagen and 8.8 g of protein, including 2.2 g of glycine, 0.9 g of proline and 0.5 g of hydroxyproline, three amino acids typical of collagen. The full breakdown, per 10 g and per 20 g, is given in the composition tab of this page.
Vitamin C, the only added nutrient
Compared with unflavoured marine collagen, this is the most noticeable difference on the label: each 10 g scoop provides 12 mg of vitamin C, i.e. 15% of the reference intakes. The product is therefore a source of vitamin C, and with two scoops a day the intake reaches 24 mg, i.e. 30% of the reference intakes.
Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage and skin. It also contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones. This is the claim Nutripure uses on the pouch. Collagen itself has no authorised health claim in Europe, so we stick to what the label says.
If you would like a higher vitamin C intake, you can combine it with pure vitamin C powder, which mixes easily into the same drink. Our beauty and joints sections in Paris bring together other products around these themes.
Naticol®: collagen from wild-caught fish
The collagen used is Naticol®, a patented ingredient. It is obtained from the skin of wild fish caught in Europe, more precisely from three non-endangered species: cod, haddock and redfish. The fishing is certified Friend of the Sea, a label that ensures marine resources are respected. The peptides are of French origin.
This collagen is hydrolysed into small peptides of around 2,000 daltons. You can see it in the glass: the powder dissolves quickly and completely in water, with no lumps or deposit. Nutripure also states that Naticol® remains stable in an acidic or hot drink, which leaves real freedom to vary your preparations.
The product is made in France and complies with the EN 17444 anti-doping standard, a useful detail for athletes subject to testing. Every batch is traceable, from the fish to the pouch.
Preparation and drink ideas
The basic preparation is the simplest: one scoop filled to the 20 ml mark, i.e. 10 g, in 250 ml of water, then a few seconds in a shaker or with a spoon. Nutripure recommends 1 to 2 scoops a day, ideally with a meal or after training. The 310 g pouch contains 31 servings, about a month at one scoop a day.
For variety, the exotic flavour goes very well with lime juice, a little sparkling water and a few ice cubes, lemonade-style. It also works in orange or pineapple juice, coconut milk diluted with water, or a mango and banana smoothie. Nutripure even suggests adding it to a whey shake: with a vanilla protein, you get a tropical cocktail taste. In our shop in Paris 12th, the lime lemonade is the recipe we most often suggest to discover this flavour.
In summer, preparing a jug in advance in the fridge gives you a drink to sip throughout the day. In winter, you can dilute it in lukewarm rather than cold water. Just avoid mixing it into savoury dishes or coffee: that is what the unflavoured version is for.
Nutripure, a French brand
Nutripure was founded in 2017 by Christophe Carrio, five-time world champion in artistic karate and holder of a dietetics diploma, together with his brother Florent, an engineer. The company is based in Deyme, in Haute-Garonne, near Toulouse, and has its products made in France.
Nutripure offers its Naticol® marine collagen in several flavours: unflavoured, chocolate, lemon, raspberry and this exotic version. The brand also offers a bovine collagen. On the pouch, it suggests pairing it with its Pure Glycine, an amino acid found in large amounts in collagen.
We chose to stock Nutripure in our shop in Paris 12th for its clear labels and traceable ingredients, alongside other flavoured collagens such as Novoma’s mango marine collagen.
Precautions and storage
This product contains fish: it is not suitable for people with a fish allergy. It is made in a facility that also handles gluten, egg, soy, milk and celery, hence the mention of possible traces. It is intended for adults and should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of 20 g. If you are on medical treatment, pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before starting.
Keep the pouch tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from light. A flavoured powder easily absorbs moisture: always use a dry scoop, especially if you take the pouch to the office or the gym in Paris. The best-before date and batch number are printed at the bottom of the pouch.
Frequently asked questions
Does the exotic marine collagen taste of fish?
No. Naticol® has a very discreet smell, and the natural exotic fruit flavouring clearly dominates. The drink tastes fruity and slightly tangy.
Does it contain sugar?
There is no added sugar: the sweet taste comes from steviol glycosides, a sweetener derived from stevia.
What is the difference with unflavoured marine collagen?
The collagen is the same, Naticol®. The exotic version adds a natural flavouring, citric acid, stevia and vitamin C: it is drunk on its own in water, whereas the unflavoured version is rather added to dishes and hot drinks.
Where can I find it in Paris?
At Herba Barona, 10 rue Théophile Roussel, Paris 12th, from Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, a few minutes’ walk from Ledru-Rollin (line 8) and Bastille (lines 1, 5, 8) metro stations.
Herba Barona’s tip — pour the cold water into the shaker first, then add the scoop and shake for a few seconds: the powder disperses better, and a squeeze of lime brings out the exotic notes.
