Chlorella is a freshwater microalgae that first appeared over two billion years ago. Flamant Vert’s chlorella (Chlorella sorokiniana) is produced in France in a closed system that protects the algae from outside contamination, with water quality controlled from start to finish and regular checks throughout the year. This growing method also produces a chlorella naturally rich in vitamin B12: 13µg per teaspoon, over five times the reference intake — a real strength for vegetarians. The powder has an intense green colour, reflecting its richness in chlorophyll, of which chlorella is one of the most concentrated plant sources.

Powder allows fully flexible dosing and fits easily into smoothies, vegetable juices, compotes, yoghurts or cold soups. It’s also the most stripped-down format: 100% chlorella, with no capsule shell or anti-caking agent. Gram for gram, it’s the most economical format for regular users. If you prefer something more portable, the same chlorella is also available in tablets and vegetable capsules.

Flamant Vert’s recommended dose is simple: one teaspoon a day (about 3g), with a little water, ideally before or with a meal. It also works well sprinkled over raw vegetables, soups or compotes, or mixed into a vegetable juice. Its taste is grassy and plant-like, with marine notes; in-store we often suggest pairing it with banana, mango or cocoa to soften the flavour. Avoid heating it, as heat degrades some of its nutrients.

Chlorella is traditionally used in detox routines. Its cell wall has the particularity of binding certain unwanted elements in the digestive tract, helping their natural elimination, and its record-high chlorophyll content is valued for its purifying properties. Many of our customers use it as a seasonal course in spring and autumn, sometimes alongside other products from our detox range or with klamath powder.

Chlorella is generally well tolerated. Mild digestive discomfort can occur at the start of a course — it usually resolves by starting with a half dose for the first few days. Chlorella naturally contains sulphites. People on anticoagulant treatment should seek medical advice due to the algae’s vitamin K content, and people allergic to algae or iodine should avoid it. What does chlorella powder taste like?

A grassy, plant-like taste with fairly noticeable marine notes. Regular users often take it plain in a glass of water; others prefer it blended into a banana-cocoa smoothie.

How long does a 100g bag last?

At one teaspoon a day (3g), a 100g bag lasts about a month — a good size for trying chlorella powder or complementing a tablet-based course.
