BCAAs designed for the water bottle
The powder version of Nutripure BCAA 2.1.1 is aimed first at people who drink while they train. You put one scoop into your bottle of water, shake it, and sip it between two sets, during interval training on the track or over the course of a bike ride. This is the format Nutripure recommends to people who train regularly.
The appeal of the powder lies in its flexibility. You choose the amount, from 7 to 14 g a day, you mix it into whatever you already drink during exercise, and you do not need to swallow a handful of capsules in the middle of the gym. The kraft pouch with its zip fits easily into a sports bag along with the scoop provided.
If you always head off to training with a water bottle, the powder is the easiest format to fit in: nothing more to carry than a pouch, a scoop and some water. It is the version we will show you first in Paris if you are looking for BCAAs to drink.
Three amino acids, in a 2:1:1 ratio
BCAA stands for “branched-chain amino acids”. They are leucine, isoleucine and valine, three so-called essential amino acids: the body does not make them, so they come from food. They are found naturally in the proteins of meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and pulses.
The figure 2.1.1 gives the proportion between the three: two parts leucine to one part isoleucine and one part valine. At the daily dose of 14 g, that means 7000 mg of L-leucine, 3500 mg of L-isoleucine and 3500 mg of L-valine. With a single 7 g scoop, you take half of these amounts.
Nutripure opted for this balanced ratio rather than a formula heavily loaded with leucine, such as the 4:1:1 or 8:1:1 you also come across. The brand presents it as a versatile choice, suited to weight training as well as to endurance sports. The ingredient list runs to three words, and the full table is in the Composition tab on this page.
Of plant origin, obtained by fermentation
According to Nutripure, these BCAAs are produced by fermenting non-GMO maize. The process yields amino acids of plant origin: the product suits vegetarians and vegans alike. The label on the pouch sums it up by stating that the amino acids are obtained entirely by plant fermentation.
The powder contains no sugar, no sweetener, no colouring and no bulking agent. It is a deliberate choice by the brand: keep the formula as short as possible and let everyone flavour it in their own way.
Nutripure is a French brand founded in 2017 by Christophe Carrio, five-time world champion in artistic karate, and his brother Florent, an engineer. The company is based in Haute-Garonne, near Toulouse, and its BCAAs are made in France.
The bitter taste: how to make it disappear
Let us be honest: pure BCAAs taste bitter. Nutripure says so on its own page, and you will notice it from the first sip if you try the plain powder in a glass of water. The bitterness comes from the amino acids themselves, since there is nothing to mask it.
The simplest fix is lemon: the juice of half a lemon in the bottle completely changes the drink. The powder also goes very well with a fruity electrolyte drink, such as Hydrapure electrolytes Nutripure red berries, or with a maltodextrin-based sports drink. Nutripure also offers a natural blueberry flavouring, designed for its BCAAs and sold separately.
In the morning, the brand suggests adding them to a protein shake or a sweet potato mix, where the taste disappears. A practical detail: give your shaker a good shake before drinking; the powder disperses quickly but appreciates a firm flick of the wrist.
Water bottle recipes, from the gym to the long ride
For an intense session, Nutripure suggests a simple drink: 50 g of maltodextrin, 7 g of BCAAs, some lemon juice and 500 to 800 ml of water. During a cutting phase, the brand reduces the maltodextrin to 30 g and keeps the rest the same.
For endurance, on race day, the recipe is repeated for every hour of effort: 50 g of maltodextrin in 500 to 800 ml of water, 7 g of BCAAs, a dash of lemon and a pinch of salt. If you are also eating a protein energy bar, Nutripure states that the BCAA dose can come down to 3 or 4 g per hour.
The times the brand recommends are in the morning, before and during training, and during a long effort. For an ordinary session, nothing stops you keeping it simpler: one scoop in a bottle of lemony water is enough. For a jog along the Coulée verte, a stone’s throw from our shop in Paris 12th, that is often all you need to take.
Powder, capsules or protein: choosing your BCAAs in Paris
The same Nutripure BCAA 2.1.1 also come in plant-based capsules, more discreet and tasteless. The powder keeps the advantage of an adjustable dose taken gradually during the session; the capsules are taken in one go, with a glass of water. Our BCAA section in Paris brings together the different formats and ratios available.
Bear in mind that BCAAs do not replace a complete protein. Nutripure says so clearly: they complement your overall protein intake, whether it comes from food or from a powder. A common routine is to drink the BCAAs during the session, then take a native whey isolate after training, or an organic plant protein for vegans.
If you are looking for other amino acids, such as glycine, glutamine or beta-alanine, the amino acids category brings them together. At our shop in Paris 12th, we can look with you at what makes sense for your sport and your training pace.
Precautions and storage
This product is for adults only. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of 14 g and keep the pouch out of reach of children. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, ask your doctor for advice before using it. A food supplement should be used as part of a healthy lifestyle and is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet.
Close the zip tightly after each use and store the pouch in a cool, dry place away from light, in a cupboard rather than in a sports bag left in full sun. The best-before date and the batch number are printed at the bottom of the pouch.

Herba Barona’s tip — prepare your water bottle the evening before, with the juice of half a lemon, and leave it in the fridge: the powder has time to dissolve completely, and the bitterness is much less noticeable in a well-chilled drink.
