Black seed oil is composed of over 80% unsaturated fatty acids, mainly linoleic acid (omega-6) and oleic acid (omega-9). It also contains thymoquinone, its main active compound, as well as thymol, carvacrol, vitamins (E, A, group B), minerals (calcium, iron, potassium, zinc) and phytosterols. Thymoquinone is a phenolic compound that gives black seed oil its recognised antioxidant properties. The unfiltered nature of the Krauterland oil guarantees the presence of all these constituents at their natural concentration, without loss from a filtering or refining process.

Black seed oil can be used both internally and externally. Internally, it is traditionally consumed to support the body’s natural defences, digestive and respiratory comfort, and general wellbeing. Externally, it is applied to the skin for skin comfort, to the scalp for hair health, or used in massage for its soothing properties. It is also used in many homemade cosmetic preparations: hair masks, face serums, massage oils.

For internal use, take 1 teaspoon per day, neat or mixed with honey, ideally in the morning on an empty stomach. The taste is strong, slightly sharp and bitter, which can surprise on first tasting; mixing with honey softens this flavour. A course of 1 to 3 months is generally recommended, with a break of a few weeks between courses. For external use, apply a few drops directly to the skin or hair, gently massaging in; it can be used neat or mixed with another plant oil (argan, jojoba). Shake the bottle well before use, as natural sediment from the unfiltered oil can settle at the bottom.

People allergic to plants of the Ranunculaceae family should do a skin test before first use. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before consuming black seed oil.
