What “detox” means, and what it does not
The word is used so often that it has almost lost its meaning, so let us be clear: the body needs no product to do its daily work. The liver and kidneys function continuously, and no supplement replaces them.
What a formula like this offers is different: nutrients the liver uses in its normal functioning. It is nutritional support, not a cleanse, and that nuance shapes what you can reasonably expect. Post-holiday courses are often more ritual than physiology — not necessarily pointless, but worth naming.
Milk thistle and three other patented ingredients
Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is the central plant. Its seeds are used for a group of compounds called silymarin, which dissolves poorly and is therefore poorly absorbed. Nutripure chose Silactive®, a form developed to improve this bioavailability.
Altilix® is a standardised artichoke extract, a classic plant of the European tradition. PureBKale® comes from kale, a crucifer like cabbage and broccoli, which contains sulphur compounds. VitaCholine® provides choline, which contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function. Selenium, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and B vitamins complete the formula; the full list is in the Composition tab.
A short course, on purpose, and how to take it
Take two capsules a day during a meal, with a large glass of water: the 42 capsules last 21 days. This type of formula suits a short, repeated course rather than continuous use. The most logical moments are changes of season, after the holidays or after a period of richer eating; two or three courses a year are plenty.
Drink more water than usual during these three weeks. And a common-sense remark we often make in our Paris 12th shop: three weeks of capsules do not make up for eleven months of excess. They make sense alongside a return to balanced eating, not instead of it.
Precautions, and the brand behind it
For adults only. Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Milk thistle and artichoke may interact with some medicines, particularly those processed by the liver, which covers a great many of them: if you take long-term medication, ask your doctor before starting.
The formula contains no controversial substances, solvents or excipients. Nutripure is a French brand founded in 2017 near Toulouse by Christophe Carrio, five-time world champion in artistic karate and a qualified dietitian, and his brother Florent, an engineer; it manufactures in France. A more complete powder version also exists, with nettle, spinach and black radish.
Our advice in Paris 12th
On a subject as crowded with promises as detox, Nutripure keeps the same line: four named patented extracts, documented forms and no miracle talk. That is why we stock it alongside Dynveo, Novoma and Nutrimuscle. See also our liver section, our detox selection and our digestion range.
Herba Barona has been a food supplement shop since 2006 at 10 rue Théophile Roussel, Paris 12th, open Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30 am to 6.30 pm, near Ledru-Rollin and Bastille metro stations.
Frequently asked questions
When is the best time for a course?
At changes of season, after a period of rich eating, or in spring out of habit. Two or three three-week courses a year is a reasonable pace.
Should I change my diet during the course?
That is what will make the biggest difference, far more than the capsules themselves. Cutting down on alcohol, fried food and ultra-processed products for three weeks is what counts.
Capsules or powder?
Capsules are simpler day to day. The powder version is more complete, with nettle, spinach and black radish added.
