Buy Granaprosan: concentrated fermented pomegranate capsules
Granaprosan, from the German laboratory Dr Jacob’s, is a food supplement made from concentrated pomegranate extract (Punica granatum), in a bottle of 100 vegetable capsules. Available at our Paris shop, with Click & Collect and delivery across France and Europe.
What is Granaprosan Dr Jacob’s?
Granaprosan is a concentrated pomegranate extract in vegetable capsules. Each capsule contains 83% pomegranate, made up of 84% pomegranate juice and 16% freeze-dried fermented pomegranate juice extract — the result of research led by Dr Ludwig Manfred Jacob, a German physician and biochemist specialising in preventive nutrition. The name Granaprosan references pomegranate (granatum in Latin) and the prostate, one area of particular interest for this supplement — though Granaprosan is used by both men and women for its general antioxidant properties. Its distinctive feature is a patented manufacturing process (EU patent) combining bioactivated fermentation using live micro-organisms with freeze-drying, designed to preserve the freshness and integrity of the polyphenols and support their bioavailability compared with conventional pomegranate extracts. A bottle of 100 capsules provides a 50-day course at the standard dose of 2 capsules a day, or 25 days at 4 capsules a day; each 2-capsule dose provides 360mg of polyphenols (measured by the Folin-Ciocalteu method as gallic acid equivalent).
Pomegranate: a fruit with exceptional antioxidant properties
Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a fruit native to the Middle East, cultivated since antiquity across the Mediterranean basin and Asia, long recognised for its nutritional properties and considered one of the richest fruits in natural antioxidants. This richness comes from its high polyphenol content, a broad family of plant compounds with protective properties. Three families stand out: ellagitannins, complex polyphenols found in abundance in pomegranate peel and juice, hydrolysed in the gut to release ellagic acid, itself converted by the gut microbiota into urolithins, metabolites of growing scientific interest; punicalagins, the most abundant and characteristic ellagitannins in pomegranate, responsible for most of the juice’s antioxidant activity; and anthocyanins, the pigments behind the juice’s deep red colour, which also contribute to the fruit’s overall antioxidant potential. Dr Jacob’s fermentation process for Granaprosan is designed to enhance the bioavailability of these ellagitannins by initiating their transformation before ingestion.
Pomegranate and prostate health
Pomegranate’s relevance to prostate health has been an active area of research for several years, with numerous preclinical studies exploring the effects of pomegranate polyphenols — particularly ellagitannins and ellagic acid — on prostate cells. Granaprosan is often chosen by men interested in supporting prostate health as part of a preventive, natural approach, and its name reflects this traditional area of interest. It’s essential to remember that Granaprosan is a food supplement, not a medicine, and cannot replace regular medical follow-up, including the screening recommended by health authorities — any prostate concern should be discussed with a doctor. Granaprosan can be used alongside other nutritional approaches, such as lycopene (tomato), selenium or zinc, nutrients traditionally associated with prostate health; our team can advise on suitable combinations.
A powerful antioxidant for cellular protection
Beyond its specific interest for the prostate, Granaprosan is a broad-spectrum antioxidant supplement. Pomegranate polyphenols exert antioxidant activity that contributes to protecting cells from oxidative stress, a phenomenon involved in cellular ageing and many degenerative processes. Oxidative stress results from an imbalance between free radical production and the body’s ability to neutralise them, with contributing factors including pollution, smoking, UV exposure, psychological stress, an unbalanced diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Pomegranate polyphenols, particularly punicalagins, show one of the highest measured antioxidant capacities in the plant kingdom, ahead of red wine, green tea and most commonly consumed fruit juices. This cellular protection reflects a long-term approach — not an immediate effect, but ongoing support for the body’s natural defences against everyday stressors.
How to use & precautions
Take away from meals. Allow at least one and a half hours before a meal, or one and a half hours after. This matters: pomegranate polyphenols and punicalagins are absorbed far better on an empty stomach, while taking them in the middle of a meal noticeably reduces the benefit. First thing in the morning or mid-afternoon are the easiest slots to keep to.
The recommended dose is 2 capsules a day (360mg of polyphenols), taken with a large glass of water, away from meals. For a stronger intake, the dose can be increased to 4 capsules a day (720mg of polyphenols) on the advice of a healthcare professional. A bottle of 100 capsules provides 50 days at 2 capsules a day, or 25 days at 4 capsules a day; a course of 2–3 months is generally suggested to assess the benefits of Granaprosan, and can be repeated as needed.
Contains sulfites (from grape extract). People on medical treatment, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and people allergic to sulfites should consult a healthcare professional before use. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplement — does not replace a varied, balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of young children. Store in a cool, dry place away from light.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between Granaprosan capsules and the liquid pomegranate elixir?
Granaprosan capsules contain a concentrated, freeze-dried extract of fermented pomegranate juice. Dr Jacob’s liquid pomegranate elixir is a concentrated liquid juice. Both provide pomegranate polyphenols, but the capsules offer a higher concentration per dose and are more convenient when travelling.
Is Granaprosan suitable for vegetarians?
Yes. Granaprosan’s capsules are vegetable-based (hydroxypropylmethylcellulose shell) and the contents are made solely of plant extracts (pomegranate, grape). It suits a vegetarian or vegan diet, though it does contain sulfites (from the grape extract), which should be noted by anyone with a sulfite allergy.
How long does a bottle of Granaprosan last?
At the standard dose of 2 capsules a day, a bottle of 100 capsules lasts 50 days, roughly 7 weeks. At the higher dose of 4 capsules a day, it lasts 25 days. For a full 3-month course at 2 capsules a day, plan on 2 bottles.
Can Granaprosan be combined with other antioxidants?
Yes, Granaprosan can be combined with other antioxidant supplements such as vitamin C, vitamin E, resveratrol or turmeric. For prostate health specifically, it can be paired with lycopene, selenium or zinc. We recommend seeking advice from a healthcare professional before combining supplements, especially if you’re undergoing medical treatment.
