The concept of sea plasma dates back to the work of René Quinton (1866-1925), a French biologist and physiologist who demonstrated that the mineral composition of seawater is remarkably close to that of the human internal environment (blood, lymph, interstitial fluid). His theory, set out in L’Eau de mer, milieu organique (1904), rests on a fundamental observation: life originated in the ocean, and our internal environment has retained a mineral composition inherited from that original environment.

Quinton identified that seawater contains the 78 elements of the periodic table in ionic form — exactly the same elements present in our blood plasma, in comparable proportions. This discovery paved the way for the clinical use of seawater, with documented results in French hospitals in the early 20th century.

Today, sea plasma is used as a remineralising food supplement, no longer by injection. But the principle remains the same: supplying the body with the minerals it needs in their most natural and bioavailable form.

Sea plasma comes in two forms, each suited to a specific use:

• Hypertonic (this product): pure, undiluted seawater. Mineral concentration of 33 g/litre. This is the most concentrated and most remineralising form. Pronounced salty taste. Recommended for:
  • Intensive remineralisation after sports effort, fatigue, convalescence
  • Quick intake of marine magnesium, potassium, iodine and trace elements
  • Boosting vitality and energy
  • Supporting acid-base balance
• Isotonic: seawater diluted with spring water to reach 9 g/litre — the same concentration as blood plasma. Gentler, better tolerated. Recommended for:
  • Long-term daily use
  • Sensitive or elderly people
  • Nasal hygiene (spray)

The hypertonic version is the most popular form for a remineralising course. If the salty taste is too strong, dilute it in a glass of water or vegetable juice.

What sets sea plasma apart from classic mineral supplements is the ionic form of its minerals. In seawater, minerals are dissolved as ions — the form most directly assimilable by human cells, with no need for digestion or liver processing.

Main mineral composition per 60 ml (daily dose):

• Marine magnesium: ~104 mg — in the form of magnesium chloride, one of the best-absorbed forms. Guide: which magnesium to choose
• Calcium: ~24 mg
• Potassium: ~23 mg — essential electrolyte for muscles and the heart
• Natural iodine: ~4.6 µg — supports the thyroid
