Nutripure’s Organic Plant Protein fits on one line of the label: 70% pea protein and 30% rice protein, both from organic farming. The unflavoured version contains no flavouring, no sweetener and no thickener. It is a protein powder and nothing else.

The kraft pouch carries the French AB logo and the EU organic leaf, with the certification body code FR-BIO-01 and the mention “EU Agriculture”. Organic certification means, among other things, that the peas and rice are grown without GMOs or synthetic pesticides.

Nutripure is a French brand founded in 2017 by Christophe Carrio, five-time world champion in artistic karate and holder of a dietetics diploma, together with his brother Florent, an engineer. The company is based in Haute-Garonne, near Toulouse, and manufactures in France. We carry it in our shop in Paris 12th, alongside its whey isolate and its organic sweet potato flour.

A 30 g serving, i.e. two scoops, provides 24 g of protein for 119 kcal. Carbohydrates and sugars stay below 0.5 g, fat at 2.3 g. The powder contains 80% protein, a high level for a plant protein.

Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass and to the maintenance of muscle mass. It also contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. These are the three authorised claims for protein, and the protein content of this product allows them to be used.

Worth knowing if you watch your salt intake: the powder contains 1.7 g per 100 g, about 0.5 g per serving. This is common with plant protein isolates and is linked to the extraction process; it remains modest across a whole day.

Every plant protein has its “limiting” amino acid, the one it provides in the smallest amount. Pea is rich in lysine but lower in methionine; rice is the other way round. By combining them at 70/30, Nutripure obtains a profile that covers all nine essential amino acids.

In practice, a 30 g serving provides 11.6 g of essential amino acids, including 5.6 g of BCAAs and 2.6 g of leucine. Lysine reaches 1.9 g and methionine 0.5 g per serving. These figures make it possible to compare this protein objectively with other sources, plant-based or not.

The brand states a PDCAAS score of 1, the index used to assess protein quality while taking digestibility into account. We quote it as a manufacturer’s figure: the way each person digests a protein powder remains individual, and the best approach is to start with one serving and see how you tolerate it.

The unflavoured version lives up to its name. In water you notice a light pea note; in a plant milk, a smoothie or a recipe, it fades into the background. It is the version we recommend in Paris to people who want to cook with their protein rather than just drink it.

It blends easily into pancake or crêpe batter, porridge, plant-based yoghurt, a granola bowl or a warm soup. For a sweet recipe, Nutripure suggests adding a little fat-reduced cocoa, a banana, half a mango or a spoonful of almond butter for a creamier result.

For baking, you can replace part of the flour with the protein, and combine it with Nutripure’s organic sweet potato flour for more complete pancakes. Just avoid pouring it into a boiling liquid, where it tends to form lumps: better to add it off the heat.

The basic guideline is simple: 30 g, i.e. two 30 ml scoops, in 250 ml of plant milk (almond, rice, oat, hazelnut or coconut), then a few seconds in a shaker. Nutripure recommends one to two servings a day depending on your needs and your diet.

Breakfast is often the meal lowest in protein, especially when it is sweet: it is a good moment for a serving. It also works as an afternoon snack, or after training if you cannot have a proper meal within the following hour.

The 750 g pouch holds 25 servings of 30 g, a little over three weeks at one serving a day. Close the zip carefully after each use and keep the pouch in a dry place. Organic Plant Protein is first and foremost for vegetarians and vegans who want to top up their protein intake, especially if they do weight training, CrossFit, Hyrox or an endurance sport. It also suits people who prefer to avoid milk proteins: according to the manufacturer it is lactose-free and gluten-free.

It is also of interest to athletes who already take whey and want to vary their protein sources from one day to the next, or to anyone simply looking to spread their protein intake better over the day. For non-vegetarians mainly after a highly concentrated dairy protein, Nutripure’s Whey Isolate Native remains the brand’s other option.
