Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a thorny shrub native to Central Asia, especially common in Mongolia, Siberia and the Himalayan regions. Its small orange berries are harvested at maturity to produce this precious oil, with its characteristic red-orange colour coming from its rich carotenoid content. Biokhaan’s organic sea buckthorn oil is obtained by first cold pressing, a process that preserves the full range of its nutrients, and is certified organic, guaranteeing no pesticides, chemical fertilisers or synthetic treatments during cultivation or processing. The amber glass bottle protects the oil from light and oxidation for optimal preservation.

Omega-7 (palmitoleic acid) is the star component, a rare fatty acid naturally present in human skin that helps maintain hydration and suppleness — few plant oils contain it in meaningful amounts. Omega-3, 6 and 9 round out the lipid profile. Vitamin E (tocopherols) is a powerful natural antioxidant protecting cells from oxidative stress, while vitamin A (beta-carotene) gives the oil its orange colour and supports skin cell renewal. Sea buckthorn is also one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C, a nutrient that supports collagen formation, and its carotenoids and flavonoids add further antioxidant protection. No preservatives, no E407, no carrageenan.

External (cosmetic) use: apply a few drops directly to dry or fragile areas of the face or body; use as a serum before your day or night cream for an instant glow thanks to its natural colour; apply to areas prone to stretch marks; use after sun exposure to help skin recover; add a few drops to massage oil or homemade cosmetic preparations; can also be used to dilute essential oils.

Internal (food supplement) use: take a few drops diluted in a glass of water or directly, following the manufacturer’s guidance, or add to smoothies, fruit juice or salads.

Store the bottle away from light and heat, and close it carefully after each use.

What is the difference between pulp oil and seed oil?

Sea buckthorn pulp oil, like Biokhaan’s, is extracted from the berry flesh and is particularly rich in omega-7 and carotenoids, giving it its intense orange colour. Seed oil is richer in omega-3 and 6. The two are complementary, but pulp oil is preferred for skin and mucous membrane care due to its omega-7 content.

Does sea buckthorn oil stain the skin?

Due to its high carotenoid content, it can leave a light orange tint on the skin, which is temporary and fades within a few hours. To avoid staining clothes, let it absorb for a few minutes before dressing, or blend it with a neutral plant oil to soften the colour.

How long does organic sea buckthorn oil keep?

The glass bottle allows for optimal preservation. Once opened, it is best used within 6 months. Store away from direct light and heat, ideally somewhere cool and dry — the amber glass naturally protects the oil from photo-oxidation.

Can sea buckthorn oil be used during pregnancy?

External use is generally well tolerated. For internal use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional first.
