BCAA 2.1.1 in capsules, for those who do not want a powder
BCAAs, short for “branched-chain amino acids”, are three amino acids with a branched chain: leucine, isoleucine and valine. They are among the nine essential amino acids, the ones the body does not make and that food has to provide. They are found in all proteins, from meat to pulses, but many sports people like to take them on their own, alongside what is on their plate.
This tub brings the three together in capsules ready to swallow. It is the form we readily recommend to people who have neither the time nor the inclination to get out a measuring scoop and a shaker, to those who take their supplements at the office or while travelling, and to anyone who has been put off by the taste of a pure amino acid powder.
The capsule also has the advantage of consistency: the dose is fixed, always the same, with no guesswork. You count out six capsules and that is it.
A 2:1:1 ratio: what six capsules contain
The figure 2.1.1 gives the proportion between the three amino acids: two parts leucine to one part isoleucine and one part valine. The daily dose of six capsules therefore provides 1950 mg of L-leucine, 975 mg of L-isoleucine and 975 mg of L-valine. These are the only values Nutripure displays for this version, and we reproduce them as they are.
Other BCAAs on the market go for ratios richer in leucine, 4:1:1 or 8:1:1. Nutripure chose the 2:1:1 proportion, which it presents as the closest to the natural distribution of these amino acids in muscle and as the most versatile, for weight training as well as for endurance sports.
If you are hesitating between several ratios, our BCAA section lets you compare the formulas and dosages side by side.
Of plant origin, from the raw material to the capsule
The three amino acids are obtained by fermenting non-GMO maize. Nutripure insists on this point because it makes it possible to have fully plant-based BCAAs, compatible with a vegetarian or vegan diet. The label on the tub sums it up in one line: “100% of plant origin”.
The shell follows the same logic. It is made of pullulan, a fibre obtained by fermenting starch, and not of gelatine. To help with filling, the recipe contains acacia gum and a very small amount of sunflower oil, 0.09%. There is no flavouring, no sugar, no sweetener and no colouring: a capsule does not need them, since you do not taste it.
The product is made in France for Nutripure, a French brand founded in 2017 by Christophe Carrio, five-time world champion in artistic karate and a qualified dietitian, together with his brother Florent, an engineer. The company is based in Haute-Garonne, near Toulouse.
How to take your BCAA capsules
Nutripure recommends six capsules a day, with a large glass of water. On training days, the simplest time is before the session. On rest days, the brand suggests taking them in the morning, at breakfast.
Six capsules may seem a lot. Nothing obliges you to swallow them all at once: you can take three, have a drink, then take the next three. The recommended daily dose must not be exceeded, and the product is for adults only.
On the label, the brand states a recommended course of three to six months. BCAAs do not replace a complete protein intake: many of our customers combine them with a protein powder such as Whey Isolate Native Nutripure or, for a diet without animal products, Nutripure Organic Plant Protein.
A tub of 180 capsules, or one month
The tub contains 180 capsules, for a net weight of 140 g. At six capsules a day, that is 30 servings, so one month of use. The batch number and the best-before date are printed underneath the tub.
It is stored like any supplement: in a cool, dry place, away from heat, with the lid tightly closed. Capsules are not affected by humidity in the same way as a powder, which can clump if the pouch is left open, but a cupboard is still better than a bathroom.
For a three- or six-month course, simply plan for several tubs; the composition stays the same from one tub to the next.
Allergens and who they suit
Nutripure’s quality sheet lists none of the fourteen allergens that must be declared for the BCAA capsules: no gluten, no milk, no soy, no egg, no nuts. The product is vegan and GMO-free, and the raw materials are declared compliant with the anti-doping standard.
These capsules are of particular interest to people who do weight training and strength sports, to runners, cyclists and trail runners, and to people who keep a close eye on their diet, since they provide no added sugar or fat.
Like any food supplement, they are used as part of a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Keep them out of reach of children.

Six capsules a day, with a large glass of water, before training or in the morning. They provide 1950 mg of leucine, 975 mg of isoleucine and 975 mg of valine.
Are these BCAAs suitable for vegans?
Yes. The amino acids come from the fermentation of non-GMO maize and the capsule is made of pullulan, with no gelatine. Nutripure presents the product as 100% of plant origin.
Where can I buy Nutripure BCAA capsules in Paris?
At our shop at 10 rue Théophile Roussel, near Ledru-Rollin metro station, Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. They are sold in store only: buy them in the shop, or order online and collect them from the shop.
Herba Barona’s tip — if you take your capsules before the session, keep six of them in a small pill box tucked into your sports bag, and leave the tub at home, away from heat. You will never forget them again, and the tub will stay tightly closed until the end of the month.
