Hydrolysed marine collagen capsules in Paris: beauty for skin, hair and nails

Hydrolysed marine collagen capsules are a source of type 1 collagen peptides from fish, with biovailability optimised for skin, hair and nails. 90 capsules per box. Available in Paris at Herba Barona.

What is type 1 hydrolysed marine collagen?

Marine collagen is extracted from the skin and scales of fish, mainly cold-water species such as cod, salmon and hake. It is overwhelmingly type 1 collagen — the form found in the skin, hair and nails. It should not be confused with type 2 collagen: these are two different products with different uses.

The distinction is simple:

  • Type 1 collagen → the skin (and hair and nails). This is that product.
  • Type 2 collagen → the joints (cartilage). That is a different supplement, for joint comfort.

Unlike bovine or porcine collagen, marine collagen has a molecular structure close to human collagen, which supports its absorption. Enzymatic hydrolysis breaks the long collagen chains into low-molecular-weight peptides. This collagen has an average molecular weight of about 3,000 daltons, placing it among the most finely hydrolysed (many standard collagens are 5,000-10,000 daltons). The shorter the peptides, the more easily they cross the intestinal barrier. They supply the amino acids characteristic of collagen: glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.

Type 1 collagen, the skin’s number-one protein

The skin is the organ that contains the most collagen in the human body. The dermis, its middle layer, is made up of over 70% type 1 and 3 collagen, forming a dense network that gives the skin firmness, elasticity and hydration. From the age of 25, the body’s natural collagen production begins to decline at a rate of around 1 to 1.5% a year. Over time this gradual decline shows up as a loss of firmness and suppleness.

Taking hydrolysed marine collagen peptides supplies the precursor amino acids used by the fibroblasts of the dermis. The formula includes vitamin C, which contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin. Type 1 marine collagen has become a nutricosmetic staple in Paris as elsewhere. In the 12th arrondissement, our team helps you choose the form best suited to your beauty goals.

Hair, nails and radiance

Beyond the skin, type 1 collagen is among the structural proteins found around the hair follicle and in the nail bed. A marine collagen course fits naturally into an overall beauty routine aimed at well-kept hair and nails. The formula is enriched with zinc (contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails) and vitamin E (helps protect cells from oxidative stress).

Vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc: a synergistic formula

The marine collagen does not stand alone: it is paired with three micronutrients chosen for their complementarity. Vitamin C (calcium ascorbate) is the essential cofactor for collagen formation and contributes to the normal function of the skin. Natural vitamin E protects cells from oxidation. Zinc (gluconate) supports the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails.

The capsules are of plant origin and suitable for a wide audience, except people allergic to fish. The formula contains no gluten, lactose or artificial colourings. The full amounts are shown in the “Composition” tab on this page.

Directions and course length

Take 3 capsules a day with a meal and a large glass of water; intake can be increased to 6 capsules a day for a more intensive effect. The box contains 90 capsules of plant origin, i.e. about 30 days at 3 capsules a day (15 days at 6 capsules). A course of at least 3 months is generally advised, to give the skin, hair and nails time to renew. The course can be repeated several times a year, particularly at the change of seasons.

For best results, pair marine collagen with enough vitamin C (fresh fruit, raw vegetables) and keep well hydrated. Collagen’s effects are gradual and cumulative: regularity matters more than an occasional high dose.

Precautions

This food supplement is not recommended for people allergic to fish. Because of its marine animal origin, it is not suitable for vegans or vegetarians. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should seek advice from a healthcare professional before use. Hydrolysed marine collagen is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Is this marine collagen type 1 or type 2?

It is type 1 marine collagen — the form from fish skin and scales. Type 1 is the main protein of the skin, hair and nails, so this is a beauty-oriented product. Type 2, on the other hand, is the cartilage form and relates to the joints: that is a different product. In short: type 1 for the skin, type 2 for the joints.

How many capsules are in the box and how long does it last?

The box contains 90 capsules of plant origin. At the recommended dose of 3 capsules a day it lasts about 30 days (15 days at the higher dose of 6 capsules). A full 3-month course requires 3 boxes.

Where can I buy marine collagen capsules in Paris?

You can buy them at Herba Barona, your food-supplement shop in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Our team is on hand in store to advise on choosing your collagen and the length of the course. The product is also available for delivery throughout France via our online shop.

What is the difference between marine and bovine collagen?

Marine collagen is extracted from fish (skin, scales), whereas bovine collagen comes from the hides or bones of cattle. After hydrolysis marine collagen usually has a lower molecular weight (here about 3,000 daltons), which supports absorption, and its peptide structure is close to human collagen. Both are rich in type 1 collagen. Marine collagen is a good choice for anyone wishing to avoid products of bovine origin.

How long before results show?

Collagen peptides act gradually: regularity is what matters most. A course of at least 3 months (repeatable) is advised, along with good hydration and vitamin C. A moderate daily dose is better than irregular high doses.
