Not all zinc supplements are equal. Bisglycinate zinc (zinc bound to two glycine molecules) offers superior bioavailability and excellent digestive tolerance, even on an empty stomach. Zinc picolinate, bound to picolinic acid, is also very well absorbed by the body. Both of these chelated forms are clearly preferable to zinc oxide or gluconate, which are less well absorbed. In addition, zinc and iron shouldn’t be taken at the same time, as they compete for intestinal absorption. It’s recommended to space them at least two hours apart.
